Fashola tasks Nigerians on selfless service









Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Thursday urged selfless service by Nigerians to make the state and the country greater.

The governor spoke in Ikeja at a ‘Pens Down Ceremony’ to sent off 13 permanent secretaries who retired from the state civil service after over 30 years of  service.

Fashola, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oluranti Adebule, added that the selfless service of the retired secretaries contributed to the  successes the state had recorded in governance and its economy.

He said, “You have invested your time and energy in this state, we thank you for this selfless service. We also wish you well in other endeavours that you will embark on after your retirement.”

 The Head of Service, Mr.  Adesegun Ogunlewe, said 12 of the permanent secretaries retired statutorily, having attained the age of 60 years or 35 years in service, while the remaining 13 retired voluntarily.

He said the retirees contributed immensely to the development of the state, adding that they were worthy ambassadors of Lagos.


The HOS advised other civil servants, who are still in active service, to connect themselves with government’s programmes and borrowed leaves from the retired permanent secretaries.

He said, “I want to encourage you to rededicate and keep yourselves abreast of the ongoing reforms, which are geared towards efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.”

 The retired permanent secretaries are Mrs Aramide Masha; Mr. Fausat Masha; Mrs Tinuade Aina-Badejo; Mrs Foluso Ogunlana; Mr. David Olatunbosun; Mrs. Bola-Sadipe Mojirola; Dr. Titilayo Anibaba; Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; Mrs. Adedoyin Olusoga; Mrs. Victoria Peregrino; Mr. Moshood Abass; Mr. Abiodun Fajobi; and Mr. Kamol Junaid.

In a related development, Fashola also approved the appointment of  14 new permanent secretaries including two tutors-general in the state’s public service.

A statement by Ogunlewe stated that the names of the newly-appointed permanent secretaries are Dr. John Oshinyimika; Dr. Abiola Awonuga; Mrs. Onikepo Animashaun; Mr. Fariudeen Akodu; Mr. Olatunde Agoro; and Mrs. Olufunmilayo Balogun.

Others are Mr. Waliu Onibon; Mr. Naheem Sahid; Mr. Jamiu Ashimi; Mrs. Omotayo Olabenjo; Mr. Olusoga Odunlami and Mr. Adeyinka Tajudeen Jeje.

The two tutors-general appointed are Mrs. Modupeola David and Mrs. Iyabo  Osifeso.

The statement added that Fashola had also approved the reconstitution of the Tribunal of Enquiry on Chieftaincy Matters. Its members are Mr. Hakeem Giwa; Chief Sakiru Seriki; Mr. Rabiu Oluwa; Mr. Tunji Adams; and Mr. Fatai Sulaimon.

Ogunlewe said the new permanent secretaries, as well as members of the of the tribunal, would be sworn in on Monday at Lagos House, Ikeja.
