Bauchi guber pitches Yuguda against FCT Minister

BAUCHI State 2013 governorship race has started gathering momentum as politicians strategise and counter-strategise to determine who succeeds Governor Isa Yuguda, pitching the governor against the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed. Yuguda and Mohammed are seen by many as political partners until now.
Reports have it that the two gladiators of Bauchi politics are desperately resolved to outsmart each other to prove their political relevance in the state. Yuguda is said to be bent on imposing his in-law, Dr. Musa Babayo as his successor. It would be recalled that Babayo is a former National Secretary of the PDP.
Bauchi electorate, who appear tired of the Yuguda-led administration have been mounting pressure on the FCT Minister to contest the governorship election in the state in 2015. Senator Mohammed has obviously succumbed to the pressure to join the race. Those who are against the minister however accused him of single-handedly renovating Izala Juma’at Mosque, Gwallage, in the state at the cost of N300million.
But an associate of the minister, Ali Garkuwa, in a swift reaction, described the decision of the senator to renovate the mosque as a pure philanthropic gesture aimed at expanding Islam in the state. He said he should be applauded, rather than be condemned, as he stressed that the multi-million naira mosque project has nothing to do with politics – canvassing for votes.
