Woman, 30, bags 5-yr jail term for killing child

Mrs. Yidiat Bakare, 30, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for throwing her three months old child into a river in Ifon-Osun, headquarters of Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State by an

Osogbo Magistrate's Court.

According to the Police prosecutor, Mr. Oladoye Joshua, he said Bakare committed the offence on January 10, 2013, at about 4.00p.m.

Bakare said she had a misunderstanding with her husband on that fateful date, which the police prosecutor told the court lead to the death of her baby. He said she committed an offence punishable under section 325 of the criminal code, cap 34 voll II, laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The Counsel to the accused person, Mr Jimoh Daramola, pleaded guilty to the one count charge against her client.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko in his final judgement sentenced Bakare to five years imprisonment with hard labour without an option of fine.
