Cardiff City ends 51-year waiting for Premier League promotion
CARDIFF CITY: A jubilant Tan Sri Vincent Tan, owner of Cardiff City FC was overfilled by appreciative Cardiff City fans when a goalless draw to Charlton Athletic secured them the promotion to the Premier League, ending a 51-year wait.
As fast as the final whistle was blown fans scattered onto the field in mood of celebration dancing and hugging one other.
After Tan, who was honourably sporting the club's new red jersey goes around the field, everybody needed the hand shake of the man who saved the football club from economic failure three years back after he led a Malaysian consortium to buy over the club.
The stadium was filled to capacity - 27,000 Cardiff and Charlton fans watched a tense 90-minute game. Cardiff needed only one point to get into the Premier League.
"This is my contribution to Malaysia, " said Tan, adding that the next step was to strategies
to ensure that the club remains in the Premier League.
"We have invested about 70 million pound and with the income from the Premier League, we will invest in training, in the academy and increase more seats. We will also need more great players," he added.
