TB Joshua, The Last Chance Of Ebola In West Africa Tourism.
For
many years, the travel and tourism industry has been dogged by lack of
professionalism, poor packaging and in most cases, corruption by officials; and
now, the Ebola outbreak.
Regrettably,
three of West Africa’s promising and upcoming destinations are at the very
heart of the outbreak, with Guinea Conakry, Liberia and Sierra Leone worst hit
and now gradually spreading to Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country which
many health experts predicted could have devastating consequences for the
continent.
Since
the outbreak, trade which is the biggest unifying factor across the West Coast
has suffered great loss with restrictions and strict border controls on land,
water and air travels.
As
a way of controlling the deadly Ebola Virus from spreading fast, government
across the region have put in place stringent screening procedures at airports.
In some cases, some airlines that made air connectivity easier have stopped
flying the Sierra Leone and Liberia routes.
Arik
Air, the biggest airline in Nigeria and West Africa has suspended all flights to
and from Serra Leone and Liberia.
The
airline’s head of corporate communications, Ola Adebanji said the suspension
would be in force “until further notice”.
Also
affected were A Sky, another regional airline based in Lome, Togo with strong
ties with Africa’s largest and most profitable airline, Ethiopian Airlines has
been stopped by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority [NCAA]from operating its
regular flights into Nigerian airports.
Reports
from the Dubai also say that Emirate sand British Airways have also suspended all
their scheduled flights to and from Guinea Conakry.
Whilst the world battles the deadly
virus, Nigeria is on red alert since the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer who was the index
case of Ebola on Nigerian soil died;four more cases of Ebola virus disease have
been confirmed while 177 people are being
watched in Lagos and 6 others in Enugu then.
The
Nigerian government has also placed a ban on repatriation of dead bodies into
the country and relevant government agencies have been directed to ensure that the
ban is properly enforced.
