Hnr. Chukwu’s kinsman Step Out For Governorship Campaign.
The Former Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu’s kinsman and Secretary of Ebonyi Equity Committee, Hyacinth Ikpor, has flagged off his governorship campaign at Abakaliki and Afikpo city centre.
Ikpor, who resigned his appointment as Ebonyi State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism last week, said he was contesting the position based on his confidence that he has the best of what is needed to drive the state further to the actualisation of the dreams of the founding fathers.
The devolvement has divided the ranks of the Afikpo clan, a major political bloc in southern coalition where the former minister hails from.
The entrance of Ikpor in the race brought to five those running against the ex-minister despite the call by Governor Martin Elechi for the people of the state to support Chkwu for the seat.
Those who have held heavy visibility in the race include the incumbent deputy governor, Engineer David Umahi, Senator Anthony Agbo, Engineer Paul Okorie, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu , Chief Aja Nwachukwu.
Ikpor, former Secretary to Late Akanu Ibiam, (Premier, Old Eastern Region), during the flag off of his campaigns, warned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state against selling out the governorship seat to the highest bidder.
He regretted the way and manner moneybag politicians, who lack the integrity and competence to govern the state, invaded the political party with the aim of buying off the governorship position.
According to him: “the former state Governor, Dr. Sam Egwu, and now Chief Martin Elechi, transformed the state because of their integrity, competence, desire to serve. What the state needs now is a man that would sustain the legacies of the founding fathers. Ebonyi governorship position is not for the highest bidder, the Government House is not for moneybags”.
Ikpo said if elected, his administration would strengthen all existing government institutions for proper performance, monitoring, evaluation and enforcement of all its policies and program
