People are calling for showers in Denver throughout the day on Friday with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to top out at a high near 64 degrees.
"Occasional rain showers across the plains will move northward with rain diminishing from south to north after 9 a.m.," the National Weather Service in Boulder said in a forecast bulletin. "Rainfall rates this morning will generally be around (.1 inches) per hour or less
." Friday afternoon storms in the south metropolitan area, including Douglas, Lincoln and Elbert counties, could be severe, forecasters warn. "Expect heavy rain and hail up to 1 inch in diameter with the stronger storms," the bulletin said. "The airmass will be more stable further north over the plains with lesser chances for storms." A flood warning is in effect for the South Platte River near Weldona in Weld County until Tuesday morning. The warning is also in effect for the South Platte River near Kersey and the Cache La Poudre river near Greeley. Rainfall is expected to continue through the weekend in Denver, forecasters say.
